Dalhousie History, Himachal Pradesh

Dalhousie is the beautiful discovery of the British. As the lovely hill station reminded of the equally picturesque Scotland, the British had traced a model of their homeland here. It was Lord Dalhousie who founded the breathtakingly beautiful Dalhousie hill in the Chamba Valley. The land was purchased from the king of Chamba in 1853, the British made a health resort and an army camp in the hill station.

In 1867 the Municipality and the Sanatorium were also built up here by the colonialists. By 1920 Dalhousie dazzled among the well- known hill stations of India. It was more attractive because it was not crowded like the other hill queen Shimla. Today this place is also noted for being the Tibetan rehabilitation center after China conquered Tibet in 1959.
