Minjar Fair Dalhousie

Minjar Fair is an event, a popular event in the Chamba Valley. The fair is celebrated with great enthusiasm every year in the month of August. The colorful fair stretches for about a week.

Minjar Fair is highly visited by tribal people and a large number of tourists in the Chamba Chaugan. The final day begins with huge procession from the Akhand Chandi Palace. The procession goes to the bank of the Ravi River. Then Minjar which comprises of a coconut, coin, a fruit and a few sherfs of paddy tied in a piece of cloth is offered to the river Ravi.

The Minjar fair has a rich history. It actually began in 935 A.D. when the Raja of Chamba gained victory over the ruler of "Trigarta," now known as Kangra. On his return, a grand celebration was held. People greeted him in large numbers with sherfs of paddy and maze.
